Ard Fheis Éirígí 2019

Ard Fheis Éirígí 2019 will take place on January 19th, 2019, the centenary anniversary weekend of the first sitting of Dáil Éireann in 1919. The one-day event will take place in the headquarters of the Communications Workers Union in Drumcondra, Dublin.

Confirmed speakers at the Ard Fheis include John Douglas, General Secretary of the MANDATE trade union, Cat Wiener of the London-based housing group Focus E15 and Éirígís’ Brian Leeson.

As has been the case in previous years, the afternoon session of An Ard Fheis will be open to Éirígí supporters. If you are interested in attending please email eirigigeneralsecretary@gmail.com and we’ll get straight back to you.

Speaking ahead of the Ard Fheis, Cathaoirleach Éirígí Brian Leeson said, “This year’s Ard Fheis will have a particular significance as it will fall on the centenary of the first sitting of Dáil Éireann, an historic meeting which adopted both the Declaration of Independence and the revolutionary Democratic Programme.

Our guest speakers reflect out analysis that radical change in Ireland will only come from the building of a new Irish mass movement that includes political parties, trade unions, campaign groups, language organisations and other progressives working like-minded people across Europe and beyond.

The Republic of the 1916 – 1922 revolutionary period was crushed in a vicious counter-revolution which saw the creation of two reactionary states on the island of Ireland. Both states were designed to serve the interest of the capitalist class and their respective religious majorities.

Éirígí is fighting for the creation of a New Republic – an independent all-Ireland Republic build on the fair division of labour, profit, services and resources. I’d like to invite people to come along to the Ard Fheis and join us in celebrating the establishment of the First Dáil and to hear our plans for achieving the New Republic that we so badly need.”
